Just imagine this wonderfully cheesy Italian lasagna sitting on your dinner table tonight. Layered with noodles, ground meats, sauce, and cheese, this lasagna is a bound to be a family pleaser. My cousin Becky made this lasagna for my family after John was born. Ever since then, my husband cannot get enough of it.
Now I want to share with you the best part of this cheesy Italian lasagna (other than the cheesy goodness). This recipe calls for both Italian sausage and ground beef. Andrew and I do not disagree on much, but we have had an ongoing argument about the meat that must go into lasagna – Italian sausage or ground beef? Andrew believes you cannot make an Italian dish with hamburger and I am not a particular fan of Italian sausage alone. So this dish is the best of both worlds as it combines Italian sausage and ground beef together. Win win!
Be careful to not let you mouth water too much as you prepare this cheesy Italian lasagna for your family.
*Set out your cream cheese to soften ahead of time.
Brown the Meats
Begin by browning the meats together. This step can be done ahead of time. I like browning my meat in a copper pan. It doesn’t stick. I am all for easy clean up. Although, if you talked to Andrew he would say I dirty every dish in the house when I cook. 🤣
Make Cheese Paste
While your meat is cooking use a kitchen-aid stand mixer (or hand mixer) and on a low speed combine the softened cream cheese, mozzarella cheese, eggs, parmesan cheese, parsley, salt and pepper. This will form a thick, creamy paste.
Add Spaghetti Sauce
When your meat has cooked, mix with the spaghetti sauce.
Next it is time to build your cheesy Italian lasagna in the casserole dish. Start with layers of the meat mixture. This ensures that the noodles don’t stick to the pan and helps keep everything moist. Add a layer of noodles. Generously spread the cheese paste over the noodles and then layer with the meat mixture. The paste is really thick so it is a bit hard to spread. I use my hands. This thickness creates a wonderful rich taste within the lasagna that you are bound to love!
Repeat layering until you are out of space or ingredients. Make sure the top layer is cheese. Put any remaining mozzarella and parmesan on top with a sprinkling of parsley. I love my lasagna cheesy!
Finally, fill up the remaining space with water so the noodles will cook. You can use the sauce jar or just a glass. Filling the extra space between the layers with water will help bake your noodles. You can also buy precooked noodles which require adding no water. They are just ready to go! If you are freezing your precooked lasagna, I would use the precooked noodles so you don’t have to think about adding water.
Bake Your Cheesy Italian Lasagna!
Now, bake your amazing looking cheesy Italian lasagna at 375°F for 45 minutes to an hour, or until the cheese begins to bubble and brown and the noodles are tender. It may vary depending on your oven. Cover the lasagna for half of the cooking time to ensure it remains moist.

Now I am curious what other people think. Tell me, are you a Italian sausage or hamburger lover in your lasagna?
